I received my doctorate from the University of North Texas in 1992 and completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1990 and a post-doctoral fellowship at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas in 1992. I also completed a pre-doctoral externship at Southwest Family Institute. I have a BA in journalism from Texas Tech University and a BA and MA in psychology from UNT.
I have a diversity of experience in various clinical settings which include local hospitals, a marriage and family counseling clinic, college counseling centers and private practice.
I can help with acute distress or long-standing problems including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, trauma recovery, life transitions, relationship issues and reproductive health. Please refer to the information below for a more extensive list of areas in which I believe I may be helpful.
PLEASE NOTE: I am conducting psychotherapy sessions via teletherapy with an in-person option for our initial session.
My goal as a psychotherapist is to create a safe and supportive environment for patients to explore their concerns in a caring and productive therapeutic relationship. Therapeutic goals are jointly determined and may include explorations of thoughts, feelings, relationships, self-discovery and/or personal growth. I have experience with both long- and short-term therapy, and I am comfortable tailoring therapy to the the needs, goals and financial resources of each individual.
My approach to psychotherapy is based on an interpersonal, psychodynamic, and family systems theoretical foundation. I use techniques and collaborative approaches such as cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic (exploring unconscious thoughts/feelings and the impact of the past on the present) and exploring what is working/not working in patient problem-solving.
